The site has been updated with new data, however, we have noticed a bug in a couple of screens so we'll be fixing that ASAP and uploading a new set of data/pages shortly.

First things first - Merry Christmas to everyone! Even if this isn't a day of celebration for you, please accept our best wishes for peace and happiness for all the days of your life.

Secondly, Tarkin, actually this displaying multiple days of data is expected behavior. We have updated the site a bit more. We have made our statistics calculations work across and arbitrary time interval for the downloads (moving us one step closer to automation and to perhaps doing daily updates).

If you look closely, you should see that the data is actually different between the Dec 22 and Dec 23 lines - as long as the player did something during that time period.

We've also moved the fast growing players and alliances to their own page - Growth Leaders. We hope you like this new placement.

We are still trying to figure out how to get updates on tournament scores. Getting tournament scores relies on our automation effort, so until we can get a reliable automatic sequence through our QA process, tournament scores will have to wait.

We have figured out how to give you more statistics, so keep your eyes open for a new tab or new data posted in the next few weeks.

Hello Edgeworld,

As you can see I uploaded a new update. We're working on getting this automated but it is taking longer than expected. We are also working on getting new statistics ready, but that is also taking longer than I had hoped.

Another update for everyone. Updates are now going smoothly, if still not exactly the same time every Monday.

It's hard to update the site when I'm an airplane or in a distant country.

Update Oct 5th, 2014

We've fixed the page centering on the site. Please let us know if it works - or if it doesn't.

We've also changed the scaling for the Player graph - it uses date orientation now instead of the upload orientation. The graphs should be more true to value over time.

What you can expect in the next few days:
Updated data
a small redesign of the web site (centering, changed menu structure, graphs for alliance data, and a change in the horizontal scale on the graphs to Date oriented rather than upload sequence orientation)

What we still need to do:
optimize the database
automate the upload so that it happens weekly, no matter what (i.e. doesn't depend on me waking up early Sunday morning to do it manually)
add in new features like:
  statistical analysis on player and alliance information
  player comparison
  alliance history
 

We are considering the following (completely open for more suggestions):
  creating a 'track your alliance page specifically for alliance leaders"
  we're trying to figure out how to track tournaments (not saying we can, but we are investigating this)
  sector wide analysis and sector comparisons with graphs
  predictive analysis on player levels, force, alliances, and sectors

Greetings!

Some of you have noticed, GamerProgress.com is back on-line with updated data. :D

There have been some really good suggestions on how I can improve the site, please keep the suggestions coming. :D

Implementing some of the suggestions, and automated updates are part of Phase II of the revamping of the site. I'm going to keep the suggestion box open until Oct 19th, and then I intend to move forward with Phase II.

As with all things computer, it costs real time and money to accomplish these things. ;)

So I am 'asking' for donations to cover the costs. Please go to the Support page to make a donation. :o

We are finally back online.

Code has been updated and fixed. Data has been updated with what we could salvage.

We can download and upload new data! We did miss about three weeks worth of data - so please don't get upset and complain. We did the best we could given the circumstances.

Now that we are back online and you can use the site to query data about alliances and members etc, I would like to open up a discussion about what other features that you would like to see.

I am going to invest a bit more time, effort, and money to attempt to bring you the statistics, queries, etc that you would find most helpful.

So, please respond with suggestions on how we can make the site more useful to you - the participants of Edgeworld.

Again, thanks for your patience while we worked through the issues.

I hope everyone is noticing that the site is getting some long needed TLC.

We are still working through cleaning up the code, but we hope to have it all finished by this weekend.

We also hope that we will be able to post new data for several weeks in August and the current week in September. Due to other issues, we will have a couple of weeks were no data was collected, so you are going to see a gap in the statistics. Our apologies.

I have brought GamerProgress.com back online.  There are still about 400 players whose information is not in a clean state, but the rest of the data should be fine.

Over the next week, I will attempt to clean up the last 400 players statistics as soon as I can. I will also attempt to load up the data from August 9th, 16th, and August 22nd, as soon as possible.

Update Wednesday Aug 21

Well we have a little setback.:( 

Apparently we have quite a few people who take delight in using, IMO, unsuitable characters in their names, alliances, and descriptions. :mad:

I have to sanitize the data before I make the site available again. This came to light when I attempted to upload the Aug 9 data set.

So until further notice, the site is up, but it's mostly useless because there's no data in the databases.

Sorry for the false hope, but I am working on it and trying to figure out a solution.

BTW, the new site and databases should work out just fine! No space issues and hopefully no performance issues either (once I can get clean data into the db). :D

• We have transferred all the data into the new system.
• We have a new database set up.
• The new database only has the date up to Aug 2, 2014.
• But, as soon as I can, I will bulk upload the Aug 9th updates and the Aug 16th updates.

We are waiting for the DNS changes to propagate. At the moment they are still pointing at the old server and DB.
Until the DNS changes happen, there is only so much testing I can do.

Connection problems

August 9, 2014

Sorry everyone, I am having database connection problems this morning. I have this weeks data downloaded and saved in text files but I can't get it into the database. I am also not going to be home for the rest of the day. I will do my best to get this fixed but the data will not be up until tomorrow at the earliest. My apologies. (2014-08-09 7:30 am EST)

UPDATE:
I have identified the problem as a permissions problem to the database because I exceeded the allowable size (oops). I am working to resolve the problem by only keeping the last 6 months of data. I do have all the data saved in text files if I can find a future use for it. As of now, I still am not able to add records so data has not been updated. (2014-08-10 12:15 pm EST)

The 62nd consecutive download

GamerProgress has now been online for more than 62 weeks and I have started to notice a very steady decline in page views over the last few weeks.  I am wondering if that has any correspondence to the activity in Edgeworld itself.  Last year at this time I had 36 000 page views in the previous week compare that to only 10 000 page views last week.  This is also despite the fact that we now have 69 active sectors.  I guess Kabam knows the numbers better than I do but I would state that Edgeworld may be in a bit of decline.

Data download is complete again for this week.  I appreciate everyone's support, remember to share this site with your alliance and all the players in your new sectors.  I would appreciate a couple of dollars from each of you if you like my work and want to support me, check out the Support page for more information.

Kabam recently released the  Eclipse 3 colony so we at GamerProgress have added this new detail to the player lists.  You will see a smaller version of the Eclipse schematic image in the Bases Owned column of the player data.  This is a new piece of data so please let me know if anything is not working properly with this update.  I can be contacted at GamerProgress@gmail.com.

Saturday Morning Again and New data

The data download is complete.  I am curious to know how popular Edgeworld is these days.  It seems like everything is going well since Kabam is consistently releasing new sectors about every 2 weeks.  What I do know is that the activity on GamerProgress has started to drop off.  Check out the graph below taken from google analytics.

GamerProgress was released in May 2013, the graph below shows total page views each week.  So despite Kabam releasing new sectors there doesn't seem to be an influx of new engaged players.  What is your experience in some of the older sectors has activity slowed?  Unless the new players don't know about GamerProgress but my guess is that older players are just populating the new sectors.

Download is complete again for this week.  There were a few small glitches last week as we try to figure out the new download scripts but I think we got it solved this week.  As always review your data in your alliance and sector and if you see anything that looks off please contact me.

If you didn't see it yet I have added Top 100s lists that can be found on the Leader Boards Page.  They may take a second to load up but there was interest for players to see if they could get their names on these lists for all of Edgeworld.  

UPDATE:

I just realised that Kabam added 2 more sectors Witch Head Nebula (235) AND Soul Nebula (236). I have now added them and the data is available.

The data has been updated and I think the Force values are again accurate as g47 has risen to the top of the leader board with a force level of 4,702,327,220 (that's a lot of digits). "NEMESIS" has g47 edged out on the level with a level of 1,870,937.

New Host, New Download Script

The hosting switch has been completed and I am now using new software (custom built by a fellow Edgeworld player) to download and update the data.  Keep a keen eye for errors this week as I have changed a lot of processes and would not want any small error to slip through the cracks.

The data is up to date and Kabam has release yet another new sector Cat Eye Nebula so you can check them out and see whats happening in fresh territory.

A few bugs and the definition of 'INT'

So I am working on some efficiency updates on the site and I learned of a small error that I made in the database design. I set the force fields as a INT field, which turns out has a maximum value of 2,147,483,647. You may have noticed that Rab 750k+, Omegas, Lord Balrog, g47, "NEMESIS", bigga1, and MOST HATED have had force values that froze at 2,147,483,647.  I have just finished the download but notice that some of the top guys are tied again on force so I am looking into it again.  I checked out g47 and "NEMESIS" in game and maybe this time it is a Kabam problem and not mine.  If anyone else has more information on this please let me know.

You can see a few updated to GamerProgress including the new twitter account and the video page.  My plan is to share cool Edgeworld related videos and keep people informed about new content via twitter.  I also have brought back the ads to generate a bit of revenue.

This was supposed to be my last data download for GamerProgress.  I was supposed to finish the download and then finally walk away from this project.  However, I received so many emails and support from the Edgeworld Community I have decided to put in more effort on the site.  Right now my biggest problem is downloading the data.  It is a hack of a process and it takes me anywhere from 45min to 4hrs every Saturday morning.  I'd like to ask the EW community, how many of you would have kept that up for a year?  I am currently working with another dedicated EW player and we are trying to develop a more consistent and reliable method for downloading data from Kabam. GamerProgress has downloaded 4,180,492 player records over 48 weeks.

I have decided to renew my domain name and my hosting package for another 12 months and I am hoping that we can be successful on getting a better method for downloading the data.  I can't promise that I will make it another year, especially if I have to keep using my current download method, but I am going to give it a good shot.  I have reinstated the link requesting donation support for my work and I would appreciate even a few dollars from each player if you find my work helpful.  I will also be reinstating the advertisements on the site.  Many of the emails that I received over the last week suggested that I put the site behind a pay wall to give those willing to pay a higher advantage.  While this idea does make sense I would like to avoid doing so.  Kabam offers too much of an advantage to those with the ability to pay so I would like to keep the site free.

One More Data Update

Another week and another new sector for Edgeworld: Rho Ophiuchi Complex.  The download for all other sectors is also complete check out where you stand.

I would just like to remind everyone that GamerProgress will be completing one more download of data on March 8, 2014 and then will be shutting down completely in April.  If there is any interest in the data collected over the last year I am willing to make it available for $5 if any one is interested. I would need to get it into a format that you be downloaded but if anyone is interested please contact me at GamerProgress@gmail.com and we can work out the arrangements.

The data download is complete for this week including 2 new sectors: Gamma Leonis Group, Zeta Sculptori.

I would also like to announce that GamerProgress.com will be shutting down.  I will be completing 2 more downloads on March 1, 2014 and March 8, 2014.  After that the site will stay live for approximately 3 more weeks after that shutting down completely on April 1, 2014.

I have enjoyed building this site for the players and I am happy that I was able to be a part of your gaming experience.  I haven't seriously played Edgeworld for several months and the time has come for me to move on.  My advice for you is to go and out and enjoy life, I have experienced many new things since breaking away from EW.  Kabam had control of the better part of 2 years of my life.  If you enjoy the game by all means keep playing but if you don't then go experience something else.  Your base is digital your life is real.

Leveling up, isn't what it used to be

A bit of nostalgic for you; I remember a time when the power of your alliance was counted in the number of players you had over level 100.  This was a significant milestone with only 3 warps every cycle.  The game was much more focused on chat and helping other finish chains on the map or setting up targets for a friend when he was boosting.  The game was social in a way that it has definitely lost.  Today we have "NEMESIS"  gaining almost 100k in the last week.  Times have changed in deed.

Data download is complete for this week including the new sector Horsehead Nebula. I think maybe Kabam is running out of creativity for these new sector names.

The data download is complete for this week, I checked for new sectors and didn't find any.  According to my data we have to give a shout out to MOST HATED for breaking the 1 million level mark. On the force side we need to give props to Rab 465k+ who is approaching the 1.5 billion mark.  I am not sure about you but at some point these numbers stop making sense to me.

First download of the year is complete so check it out.  I haven't logged into EW at all for the last few weeks so if anyone notices anything that I should know about, like a new sector, please let me know so that I can get it included in the data.
